FREQUENCY OF PELVIC FLOOR DYSFUNCTIONS AFTER NORMAL VAGINAL DELIVERY

Abstract

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Pelvic floor disorders include urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, and other sensory and emptying abnormalities of the lower urinary and gastrointestinal tracts. The major factors associated with it are obesity, increasing age & multiple pregnancies & childbirth.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of Pelvic floor dysfunctions after NVD.

Methodology: A cross sectional survey was conducted using questionnaire. The data was collected from 50 females using non probability convenient sampling technique in different hospitals of Lahore, Punjab. It was conducted at Gynecology departments of different public sector hospitals. The study had been conducted at Sultan Hospital Sheikhupura, Dar-ul-Barkat Medicare Hospital Sheikhupura, Nawaz Sharif Children & mother care Complex Sheikhupura, Military Hospital Lahore, Shifa International Hospital Islamabad, Holy Family hospital Rawalpindi. Data was collected from Multigravida females having child birth history of normal vaginal delivery either undergone episiotomy or not. Exclusion criteria include women undergone Caesarean section birth history, benign or malignant tumor in or around pelvis, adnexal cyst ,diabetic & hypertension, hyperthyroidism.

 All investigations were carried out with SPSS statistical software (version 18). Distributions of frequency and also percentages were utilized for expressive reasons.

Results: The frequency of symptomatic pelvic floor dysfunctions in female’s undergone normal vaginal delivery is 35 %.  

Conclusion: This study concluded that the pelvic floor dysfunctions are more common in obese multigravida as compared to primagravida & nulliparous females showing obesity & multiple vaginal both as major contributor to PFD.
