Abstract

Background: Nocturnal leg muscle cramping is a repeated complaint from patients most commonly in the elderly age and all age groups heard by the doctors. Such as calf muscles i.e., soleus, gastrocnemius, or sole of the foot small intrinsic muscles.

Objective: The objective of this study is to assess the risk factors of nocturnal leg cramps among women and men.

Methods: It was a cross-sectional observational study in which 175 working males and females from general population of Lahore were gathered. Data were collected from participants between 20 to 65 years old through non-probability convenient technique. A Self-administered Questionnaire was used as study tool.

Results: The result exhibited that there is a positive direct correlation risk factors of nocturnal leg cramps in males and females. The statistically insignificant (p=0.082) effect of nocturnal leg cramps among women and men, means that there is an association between these variables.

Conclusion: The study shows a direct interactive association between risk factors of nocturnal leg cramps among women and men. Prolonged standing at work may be a more important risk factor for nocturnal leg cramps than biological differences among women and men.
