Abstract

Studying or knowing about something is the act of devoting time to learning about any topic or area of knowledge. While studying, we gain knowledge which is already discovered and
provides base to originate an innovation on existing knowledge. The linkage between existing and innovated knowledge is the research which systematically makes the innovated knowledge acceptable for academic field. Creation of knowledge requires complex set of skills and an intrinsic connection between study and research on the basis of evidence
based practice. The patient should be provided best available treatment by using conscientious, explicit and judicious evidence in decision making which could only be attained by using a reliable research methodology. A strong relationship between advanced knowledge, research and innovation has better impact on healthy society. Apart from knowledge and training a strong scientific method is required to perform scientific research. For productive results, research-informed physiotherapy practice is needed both at clinical and academic platforms. Physiotherapists have a very unique r o l e i n e a c h s o c i e t y a n d r e s e a r c h i n physiotherapy has grown exponentially over the last four decades. In the 20th century, the physiotherapists had started publishing scientific research and in 1929, first scientific randomized controlled trial (RCT) was reported. Easy access to research based scientific knowledge has helped in the development of research based physiotherapy profession. Research projects by physiotherapists are addressing different areas ranging from basic research to specific clinical questions and with t h e p a s s a g e o f t i m e m o r e n u m b e r o f physiotherapists are engaging in research. Physiotherapists are also pursuing their doctoral degrees in order to be competent in research.
