Assessment of Nutritional Status among University Hostelite Girls

Abstract

Nutritional assessment is a well ordered process of collection and interpretation of data for decision making about the cause and the nature of nutrition related problems that has bad effect on the person's health.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the nutritional status of university going Hostelite girls in Lahore city.

METHODS: Across-sectional study was conducted on University Hostelite girls selected from University ofLahorehostelsduring4months.Pretested questionnaire was used to assess the nutritional status of university going Hostelite girls, of sample size 272, with Non probability convenient sampling.

RESULTS: The results of the study showed that according to their BMI out of 272 respondents; 26 (9.56%) of them were underweight, 134(49.26%) were normal, 75(27.57%) were overweight and only 15(5.51%) were obese. There were 46(16.91) females who ate fast food 5 times per week. Vegetable intake was no tso satisfactory among the females.

CONCLUSIONS: The study concluded that most of the girls were having good nutritional status; few of the girls were suffering from disease conditions like Obesity due to sedentary life style. Junk food consumption is most frequent among university Hostelite girls.
