Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is gynecological state of cramps with painful menstruation in the uterine origin described by pelvic cramp with pain initiating for a short period before or at the beginning of menstrual cycle and lasting 1-3 days.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the dietary patterns among females suffering from dysmenorrhea.

METHODOLOGY: A Comparative Cross-sectional study was carried out from The University of Lahore, Lahore. Menstruating females total 150 (divided into two groups) were selected through non-probability convenient sampling technique. Participants were assessed through pre-tested questionnaire. SPSS version 21.0 was used for data analysis. In exclusion criteria: Females with amenorrhea, females aged below 13 years and above 30 years, non-cooperative females, females from other institutions. Ethical approved from University of Lahore. Informed consent form was used for patients.

RESULTS: According to level of education, total 117 females were from undergraduate, 13 were from masters, 18 were from postgraduates and only 2 were from PhD. Among Mother of education, total 141 mothers were educated and 8 mothers were not educated. In medical diagnosis, total 33patientshadsomemedical diagnosis and while 117 females had not medical diagnosis. According to Residential location, total 134 patients were living in own house and 16 were living in rented house.

CONCLUSIONS: It was concluded that the pain was more in females who took less intake of macronutrients or micronutrients.
