THE EFFICACY OF TRYPSIN MODULATING OOSTATIC FACTOR AND BACILLUS THURINGIENSIS ISREALENSIS AGAINST AEDES AEGYPTI LARVAE AT LABORATORY
Trypsin Modulating Oostatic Factor and Bacillus Thuringiensis Isrealensis
Abstract
Unlike traditional chemicals, used widely for killing immature Aedes mosquitoes with the development of resistance, new chemicals, Biolarvicides or Mousticides, considered to be environmental friendly causing less damage to the fauna and flora of the region, have now been developed and used.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the efficacy of Trypsin Modulating Oostatic Factor and Bacillus thuringiensis isrealensis against Aedes aegypti larvae at laboratory
METHODS: WHO Bucket test was carried out to find out the efficacy of two TMOF-Bti formulations (from
EntogeneX™; Himont Laboratories) against Aedes aegypti larvae. First TMOF-Bti wettable powder (WP) formulation was prepared (in three replicates) by dissolving 25 mg TMOF-Bti WP (0.025g) in 4 liters water while second TMOF-Bti formulation was prepared in Rice Husk (RH) and 100mg (0.1g) of it added to 4 liters of distilled/ de-chlorinated water, again in three replicates. Aedes sp. larvae (late 3rd or 4th instar) collected from ovitraps, placed at different locations in the study area, were added to these two buckets. For control, 4 liters of distilled /dechlorinated water taken in 5 Liters bucket with dried leaves in powdered form and 20 larvae each in
three replicates were added to it.
RESULTS: WP and RH formulations of TMOF- Bti larval killing capacity was quite promising for 24 hours and
prolonged to 72 hours in the second week, 120 hours in the 3rd week and vice versa.
CONCLUSIONS: TMOF-Bti formulations inhibit biosynthesis-causing stunting of growth and larval development, ultimately leading to its mortality.
