Abstract

Insomnia affects the sleep quality of an individual. It affects both male and female differently in different stages of life Objective: To find out the association of insomnia with gender, age and stress among patients visiting Tertiary Care Hospitals, Lahore Methods: 1000 patients participated in the cross-sectional study conducted for 4 months in the Tertiary Care Hospital, Lahore: University of Lahore Teaching Hospital Lahore and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore. Non-probability convenient sampling was used. Sampling Selection was conducted through inclusion criteria (all male and female patients above age of 12 years). Chi-square factor was used to analyze the data Results: Results of present study showed that association of insomnia with age, gender, employment status, stress was found to be significant while the association of insomnia with socioeconomic status and smoking status was found to be insignificant Conclusions: Study concluded that insomnia was most commonly present in elderly female patients after menopause. Men were more prevalent to insomnia than women. Stress was a contributing factor for both genders and the employment status of the individuals affected the health as well.
