Abstract

Towards the end of the tenth century of Hijra, Muslim society in the subcontinent experienced many diversions at public, academic and political levels, which led the society away from original teachings of Quran and Sunnah. People preferred their own logics and rational arguments over the teachings of the Prophet (SAW) and misbelievers were spreading their ideologies. The principles of Sharia were being overwhelmed by mystic incantations of different Sufi schools and the importance of Sunnah was being undermined. Not limited to this, the implementation of Din e Ilahi or the Divine Law in the reign of Akbar also empowered Hindus and the enforcement of Sharia was getting difficult with each passing day. In these circumstances, the Muslim scholars tried their level best to ameliorate the society and among these an effective and successful endeavor was made by Imam Rabbani. He not only pointed out and criticized these evils through his letters written to scholars, his disciples and those in power but also suggested suitable solutions for them. This article presents a brief outlook on the religious guidance provided through his letters and their impact on the society.
