THE SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS OF FESTIVALS IN JUDAISM AND ISLAM
FESTIVALS IN JUDAISM AND ISLAM
Abstract
Judaism and Islam, being revealed religions, share many common aspects both in faith, creed and celebrations. The three major Biblical feasts in Judaism include the Feast of Unleavened Bread (Pesach/Passover), the Feast of Weeks (Shavout/Pentecost), and the Feast of Booths (Sukkoth). The two major feasts in Islam are Eid ul Fitr which is the climax of Ramadan and Eid ul Azha the memorial of great sacrifice of Ibrahim (A.S).These festivals and feasts carry deep meanings and thus demand an overall view to determine the similarities among them and also a definition of the logical reasoning that is the driving force behind these festivals and festivities thus drawing a map that can guide a research based brain to adopt the actual and to leave the fictitious.
The research aims at the definition and differentiation of the dogmas that are the hub of celebrations in Judaism and Islam and also to present the actual significance hidden behind the curtains.
