Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to analyze the evolution of the art of poetry in the Ottoman Caliphate. In this period, not only the commentators, narrators, jurists and Sufis have made great efforts in the development of Tafsir, Hadith, Sufism, Fiqh and theology but also the Ottoman poets have made active role in the promotion of Ottoman poetic literature. The Ottoman Caliphs rewarded poets with gifts and honors. They had appointed special poets in their court who publicized the works of the sultans. In this scholarly and literary environment, they personally participated in poetry. Many caliphs were poets. Ancient Ottoman poetry was of an imaginative nature, while modern poets invented new styles and methods in this regard. They presented a comprehensive map of social issues and civilizations. Rather than exaggerating, explaining historical and social facts was an important feature of modern Turkish poets. In this literary age, women also took part in poetry. There is a need to analyze various aspects of the art of Ottoman poetry and to introduce well-known poets. This article has been presented to meet this intellectual need.
