Abstract

Abstract

The outbreak of the corona virous disease COVID-19 has severely affected the various aspects of life of the people. Today the humankind faces an unparalleled situation, with prevalent fear and anxiety in the face of the coronavirus disease. Health and medical authorities have made efforts and took serious steps to control this pandemic disease. In this regard, Various health organizations and agencies have developed different types of vaccines to prevent people from getting covid-19. The government of Pakistan has also planned to provide corona vaccine to the people. However, a debate among Muslim scholars have emerged recently, about the permissibility of vaccination from shariah perspective and has become controversial discourse among them. Some Muslim scholars do not allow vaccination because of the use of substance and ingredients in these vaccines forbidden in Islam, in addition to some other reasons they have referred in their discussion. while others allow to use such vaccines based on shariah maxims relating to necessity and importance of saving of life. This controversy among contemporary Muslim Jurists has led to a reluctance among Muslim community to get vaccination against corona virous. Therefore, it is important to discuss the issue of vaccination in the light of shariah. This study will focus on vaccination against covid-19 from Islamic perspective. It will be a qualitative and analytical research. The rules and principles of Sharῑʻah and opinions of the Muslim jurists regarding this issue will be extracted and quoted on the basis of Maqasid e shariah (objectives of shariah). Moreover, different ways of research in Islamic jurisprudence like Istaqrā` (induction), Istadlāl (deduction) and Qiyās (Analogy) will be used for elaboration, explanation and interpretation of this issue.
