Abstract

In all divine religions, a vivid decree of Jihad is found. War brings destruction for any nation that falls in it. Often this damage and destruction reaches to the extent that decades are required to cover it. Affected community and state ruins adversely. If the laws of justice are observed, even in war, such destruction can be minimized. It is unjustified that laws of justice are ignored just in enimity of any other nation. Though the concept of Jihad is found in all divine religions but no other religion expoeses the purpose and laws of Jihad as elaborated in Islam. The observation of Jihad is compulsory in Islam in both forms whether defensive are offensive. But often Muslim scholars who are influenced by the orientalists are misguided and refuse offensive side of Jihad and support only defensive Jihad. In our opinion their point of view is against Qur’an, and Sunnah and even against vast majority of Aslaf and Jamhoor scholars of Islam.

Nature and scope of Jihad along with its importance and objectives and other related issues have been explained in Quran and Sunnah. The gist of Islamic teachings about Jihad is that it aims to promote peace and justice in the society and intends to eliminate aggression, injustice and oppression.
