COVID-19 PANDEMIC; WHY FEMALES ARE AT LOW RISK?
Keywords:
COVID-19, estrogen
Abstract
Based on different clinical data, the lower prevalence of COVID-19 severity in women might be linked with reduced ACE2 expression and conversely, higher levels of ACE2 in men may account for worse symptoms . However, some findings also suggest that exogenous estrogen up-regulates ACE2 expression, but its activity and expression seems to be dependent on distinct pathological conditions.
